On Friday 15th November, Christian will completing a 10 hour Bikeathon in aid of Children In Need - please kindly donate on our Just Giving page!
Each year, as November draws in we all begin to see those familiar yellow ears cropping up everywhere we go. These adorable yellow ears belong to Pudsey, the mascot for Children In Need, the BBC run charity. If you haven’t already heard of Children In Need, it’s an annual fundraising campaign that culminates with the annual BBC Children in Need Appeal Show live on BBC One. It’s such a worthwhile cause, and this year the team here at Christian Michaels has decided to get stuck in with some of the fundraising. Read on to find out a little bit more about BBC Children In Need, and what Christian will be enduring to raise some money!
Since its beginnings in 1980, the annual event has raised over £1 billion for disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. Whilst Children in Need’s annual British telethon event is the most high profile aspect of the campaign, at its core Children In Need is about pockets of people across the UK coming together to raise money for our young people. From schools and corporations, to individual fundraisers and celebrity friends – brits from across the nation come together to support BBC Children in Need and work to change and improve young lives.
As it stands, the charity currently supports over 2,800 projects across the UK that provide necessary help to children and young people who face a range of disadvantages such as living in poverty, being disabled or ill, or experiencing distress, neglect or trauma. All the money raised goes to these projects, and in the almost 40 years Children In Need has been in operation, they have made a real tangible change.
Here at Christian Michaels, we’ve all followed the show and seen the incredible work that this charity consistently does for UK children over the years. This year, we’ve decided that it’s time to make our own contribution. So, on Friday 15th November, to do our bit to help raise money for such an amazing cause, Christian will be shedding his suit and stepping in to his Lycra for a 10 hour, non-stop bike ride on a static bike right here in the reception of our offices. There will be no breaks, there will be no relays, it will just be a man and his bike for 10 hours straight. Christian may be feeling confident now, but I have a feeling when we get back to him 7 hours in it’ll be a wholly different story!
All jokes aside, this will be no easy feat, and it is all for an incredibly worthwhile cause. Any donations would be massively appreciated and every single penny raised will go towards helping disadvantaged children and young people all across the UK. Please click the link to leave a donation on our Just Giving fundraising page, because even a little can go a long way.
