Reasons to use Pinterest in 2015

We are all now aware about how important it is to be using social media as part of an overall marketing strategy. The majority of business owners are using Facebook or Twitter for the most part.

Based on users it makes sense to focus on these two social media channels more than any other, and that includes Pinterest. For example, Facebook has 1.28 billion monthly users so it is a giant in the social media world whereas Pinterest has only 40 million.

So, at first glance it would seem as if choosing Pinterest as your dominant social media channel would be a foolish investment. However, upon closer inspection it may actually be a worthwhile investment.

Here are three reasons why you should be considering Pinterest.

1. It’s The Best Tool For Reaching A Female Audience

If you have a business whose primary demographic is women then you’ll want to be using Pinterest. Pinterest is the best social media channel out there for reaching a female audience.

Research shows that up to 80% of Pinterest users are female and 92% of pins are made by women. So this is a goldmine you need to be using if you have a business that solely targets women.

2. It’s Best To Post On Weekends When Using Pinterest

Unlike many other popular social media channels, the best time to post on Pinterest is on the weekend. Many business owners struggle finding the time to post during the day, during the week, and let it slide until the weekend.

However, on some of the more popular sites like Facebook and Twitter, the weekend is the worst time to post in terms of engagement. For Pinterest, the weekend is the best time to post. So if you struggle finding time to post on social media during the day, during the week, then Pinterest is a great idea.

3. You Just Need A Nice Photo

With Pinterest it is images that rule and if you have a nice looking photo your job is already halfway complete. This is particularly useful if you work in an industry where it is hard to rank highly for certain content because you can intersect the keywords with your images.

In particular, there are a few topics that have been found to perform the best on Pinterest.

  • Food

  • Drink

  • DIY projects

  • Crafts

  • Home decor

Create Your First Pin

The great thing about Pinterest is that it’s easy to get started with. Anyone can create an account and start pinning. All you need is a nice image, very little text, and a great blurb to accompany the image and you can start pinning.

It’s also very easy to share other people’s content and this is called pinning other people’s content.

However, the flip side of this is just because it’s easy to create pins doesn’t mean you can throw up any old image, pin it, and hope that it will perform well. Seeing as Pinterest is a visual site, the images need to be high quality due to the high level of competition from others. Research has shown that the best images tend to be those that are taken at close range with very little background information present.

So if you want to make the most of Pinterest you should at least invest in a decent quality camera and other additional equipment. This way you’ll make the most of your investment using Pinterest.

In Conclusion

Pinterest is a great social network to be using so take a quick look through the site and see what you think. If your audience is primarily women, you primarily post on weekends, and you think you can take a high quality photo then why not give it a try and see how you go.
